Salary and Working HoursSalary: £34,452 – £40,501 (pro‑rata for part‑time)
Hours:
14 per week
- Carry out Fitness For Use checks (MOTs) and Licensing Condition checks on taxis and private hire vehicles for City of Edinburgh Council, Midlothian Council and West Lothian Council.
- Test and examine all taxis and private hire vehicles to the standard defined by the DVSA and partner authorities.
- Identify vehicle defects and decide whether a vehicle is compliant with current DVSA MOT standards and partner licensing authorities’ requirements.
- Ensure compliance with specialist vehicle licensing conditions as detailed by licensing authorities.
- Complete DVSA inspection documentation, issue certificates, and issue licensing condition compliance certificates after successful vehicle examination, updating all systems as appropriate.
- Issue rectification or prohibition notices with immediate suspensions where appropriate, ensure remedial work is planned and implemented, and keep the Senior Vehicle Examiner updated.
- Perform administration duties directed by Senior Vehicle Examiner, including technical enquiries and general admin duties as required.
- Carry out all work in accordance with the Council’s Health & Safety policy.
- Attend specialist training and cascade training to remain conversant with current vehicular legislation and DVSA standards.
- Process relevant information, liaise with licence applicants and arrange suitable vehicle examination appointments.
- Deal appropriately with members of the public, service users, clients, staff, external agencies and service providers.
- Adapt to changing procedures and policies and contribute to the development of the service.
- Fully skilled and qualified tradesperson (City & Guilds Level Three or equivalent experience).
- Clean driving licence.
- Good communication skills.
- Membership of a professional body (IRTE) or equivalent desirable.
- Valid DVSA MOT Tester Certificate (Class IV) – or attain within six months of appointment if not currently held.
This position is subject to a Basic Disclosure check and, if the applicant has spent three months or more outside the UK in the last five years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check.
