Personal Assistant Required – East Edinburgh

Salary/Hourly Rate: £25/ph for 4 hours per week (to be worked flexibly in discussion with Project Lead – for example you may be needed for a 2 hour event one week and then 6 hours or support the next)

Contract: Permanent

Equal Footing Porty (EFP) is led by local people with lived experience of disability or caring responsibilities. EFP aims to improve pavement access for walkers, wheelers and those with small children and buggies. The project, now in its second year, builds on the multifaceted approach we established to address barriers and challenges faced by wheel users in the community.

I am co‑ordinator for portobello based grassroots organisation Equal Footing Porty and a full time wheelchair user. I am looking for somebody to support me for 4 hours per week in a flexible capacity.

Salary: £25/ph for 4 hours per week (to be worked flexibly in discussion with Project Lead – for example you may be needed for a 2 hour event one week and then 6 hours or support the next)

Start Date: February 2025 – Ongoing on a freelance basis (responsible for own tax and NI)

Duties
  • Help me physically set up events (moving furniture, going stairs to fetch things, reaching stuff I can’t reach), help with the teas and coffees at events.
  • Support me to reach my destination and return home safely (eg if I had to take public transport to a challenging environment).
  • Take notes in meetings with local stakeholders and the council etc.
  • Accompany me on pavement mapping days in east Edinburgh, inputting digital data into our drop kerb map.
  • Part of my role involves enabling other wheelchair users to experience using a handbike from our community bike library, so I’m looking for a cycle confident person to assist with the practicalities of getting equipment in and out of the container and accompanying us on led rides as physical support.

Please apply with a short covering letter (no more that 1 side of A4) and CV by 11/01/2026 to:

Rosie Sinclair

Interviews will be held in mid January.
