Role Overview
0.5 WTE Band 8A Permanent Posts – Clinical Psychologist, NHS Lothian Prisons.
Please note:
As this post is part‑time, the salary will be pro‑rata.
We are recruiting a Clinical Psychologist to join the prison mental health teams in HMP Edinburgh and HMP Addiewell.
This post is part of an expanding prison‑based psychology interventions service working to provide high quality direct and indirect psychological assessments and interventions for prison residents with mental health difficulties.
The successful postholders will work with the existing psychology team, as well with multidisciplinary NHS and SPS colleagues to develop trauma‑informed service delivery and increase access to psychological approaches across both prisons.
There are close links with the forensic clinical psychology department and the wider psychology resource within NHS Lothian, with opportunities for research and continuing professional development.
ResponsibilitiesProvide direct and indirect psychological assessments and interventions for prison residents.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary NHS and SPS colleagues to develop trauma‑informed service delivery.
Increase access to psychological approaches across both prisons.
Qualifications and RequirementsMust have a PVG Scheme membership/record. If the post holder is not a current PVG member for the required regulatory group (i.e. child and/or adult) an application will need to be made to Disclosure Scotland and deemed satisfactory before they can begin in post.
Legal requirement to demonstrate relevant permission to work in the United Kingdom.

Other InformationFrom 1/4/26, the Agenda for Change full‑time working week will be reducing from 37 to 36 hours per week. Part‑time hours will be reduced pro‑rata. However, there will be a corresponding increase in the hourly rate so that pay will not be affected.
