Position: 0.5 WTE (half time) Band 8A Permanent Post with NHS Lothian Prisons, located at HMP Edinburgh and HMP Addiewell.
We are recruiting a Clinical Psychologist to join the prison mental health teams. This post is part of an expanding prison‑based psychology interventions service, aiming to provide high‑quality direct and indirect psychological assessments and interventions for prison residents with mental health difficulties. The successful postholder will work with the existing psychology team and with multidisciplinary NHS and SPS colleagues to develop trauma‑informed service delivery and increase access to psychological approaches across both prisons.
There are close links with the forensic clinical psychology department and the wider psychology resource within NHS Lothian, with opportunities for research and continuing professional development.
Key responsibilities:
- Provide psychological assessments and interventions to prison residents.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop trauma‑informed service delivery.
- Engage with forensic clinical psychology and wider NHS Lothian resources.
- Participate in research and continuing professional development activities.
Qualifications / Requirements:
- PVG Scheme membership or record; if not a current PVG member for the required regulatory group, must apply to Disclosure Scotland and be deemed satisfactory before starting.
- Relevant professional registration or equivalent qualifications for clinical psychology.
- Valid permission to work in the United Kingdom.
- Experience working in a prison or forensic setting is desirable.

- As from 1/4/26, the Agenda for Change full‑time working week will reduce from 37 to 36 hours per week; part‑time hours will be reduced pro‑rata with a corresponding increase in hourly rate.
