Job description
Do you have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to develop policy through collaborative, cross‑organisation working? Population Health Strategy and Improvement Division is looking for a Team Leader to support delivery of the Population Health Framework and lead policy to reduce healthcare inequalities across communities who experience poorer healthcare outcomes.
Life expectancy in Scotland is stalling and health inequalities are widening, while demand for our health and social care services continues to increase. There is a pressing need to do things differently if we are to improve the lives of the people in Scotland.
As team leader for Reducing Healthcare Inequalities you will lead the Population Health Healthcare Inequalities Unit’s response to the Population Health Framework Programme, working with key partners in the NHS, local government and across SG. You will also contribute to specific pieces of work on reducing healthcare inequalities for groups who experience poorer healthcare outcomes when compared to the general population.
You will do this by
- leading the development of a cross‑agency, measurable Healthcare Inequalities Action Plan.
- Further developing work to address healthcare inequalities experienced by particular protected characteristic groups
The post is based in the Population Health Healthcare Inequalities Unit, which is part of the Population Health Strategy and Improvement Division within Population Health Directorate.
Responsibilities- Lead work to develop the Healthcare Inequalities Action Plan as part of the Population Health Framework.
- Oversee the policy contribution to the development of a national approach to gender identity services for young people, and lead work to ensure SG investment in gender identity services results in service improvements and reduced waiting times
- Support the leadership of the Population Health Framework workstream on Equitable Health and Care
- Work across the population health healthcare inequalities unit to ensure that evidence and data activity relating to healthcare inequalities is developed, understood and used effectively to drive improvements.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of stakeholders from Government, NHS, community and voluntary sectors, including senior leaders.
- Lead and develop a high performing team and actively contribute to development of the Unit and the Division. Including line management responsibility for 2x Senior Policy Officer members of staff.
