Molecular Pathology Service – Department of Laboratory Medicine – Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and Western General Hospital – NHS Lothian Clinical Scientist / Healthcare Scientist – Band 7 (37 hrs per week)Salary: £50,861 – £59,159
OpportunityAn exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated HCPC registered Clinical Scientist/Healthcare Scientist in the Molecular Pathology service based in NHS Lothian (Western General Hospital and the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh). The laboratory is part of the Scottish Strategic Network for Genomic Medicine funded by National Services Division to provide Genetic and Molecular Pathology diagnostic testing in Scotland. Applications are invited from scientists with good interpersonal skills with a background in molecular pathology/cancer genomics, with a strong interest in developing diagnostic services and the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
Responsibilities- Provision of specialist molecular testing including analysis, interpretation and reporting of investigations.
- Assuming responsibility for the quality standards required by the service.
- Contributing to the development of targeted gene panel‑based approaches using next‑generation sequencing in accordance with departmental requirements.
- HCPC registered Clinical Scientist/Healthcare Scientist.
- Experience working in a diagnostic laboratory.
- Specialist clinical and scientific knowledge in the diagnosis and monitoring of solid tumours and haematological malignancies.
- Knowledge of a range of molecular methodologies and experience with specialist analytical software, combined with interpretation of a range of scientific data and reporting of results in various scenarios.

As from 1st April 2026, the Agenda for Change full‑time working week will be reducing from 37 to 36 hours per week. Part time hours will be reduced pro‑rata. However, there will be a corresponding increase in the hourly rate so that pay will not be affected.
