The Role

An established construction business is seeking an experienced Health & Safety Advisor to support health and safety compliance across multiple active construction sites.

The role requires a strong understanding of the construction industry and involves carrying out regular site safety inspections, auditing against company policies, relevant legislation and industry best practice. You will be responsible for producing clear, detailed reports and supporting site teams in closing out actions efficiently and effectively.

You will play a key role in embedding a positive health and safety culture across sites, building strong working relationships with operational and site teams, and ensuring compliance through training, coaching and mentoring. The role will also support senior health and safety leadership on projects aligned to wider departmental objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of company health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Carry out regular site safety inspections where the business operates as Principal Contractor and/or Client under CDM Regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant UK health and safety legislation and remain up to date with legislative changes.
  • Investigate and report accidents, incidents, near misses and potential RIDDOR events as required.
  • Communicate relevant HSE advice, guidance and best practice to site teams.
  • Review Construction Phase Plans (CPPs) where acting in a client capacity.
  • Liaise with external regulatory and enforcement bodies where required.
  • Promote and embed best practice and lessons learned across the business.
  • Support the delivery of health and safety training, coaching and mentoring to improve site standards.
  • Champion a proactive and positive health and safety culture across all projects.
  • Implement measures to prevent occupational ill health across the organisation.
Qualifications Essential
  • NEBOSH Construction Certificate
  • Full UK Driving Licence
Desirable
  • NVQ Level 6 in Occupational Health and Safety
  • NEBOSH Diploma
  • Chartered IOSH membership
  • IEMA qualification
  • SMSTS
  • Scaffold Inspection qualification
Skills & Experience Essential Experience
  • Proven experience in a Health & Safety role within the construction industry.
  • Strong knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation and compliance requirements.
  • Hands–on experience implementing and monitoring site safety standards.
  • Experience carrying out site audits, inspections and delivering toolbox talks.
