Band 6 – Specialist Occupational Therapist
This is an exciting opportunity to join the occupational therapy team within the Royal Edinburgh Hospital working in mental health rehabilitation. The post is part‑time, so the salary will be pro‑rata.
OverviewThe post holder will provide leadership and innovation skills, working independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. They will assess, formulate and develop therapy intervention packages that promote occupational performance and independence. Skills and knowledge of complex physical health conditions are an asset. Working jointly with individual occupational therapy will address physical, cognitive, emotional, mental health and social issues, supporting decision‑making around discharge location and required support.
Responsibilities- Assess patients and formulate therapy interventions to promote occupational performance.
- Develop intervention packages addressing physical, cognitive, emotional, mental health and social issues.
- Collaborate with multi‑professional team members to support discharge planning and post‑discharge support.
- Provide professional supervision, training and development to colleagues.
- Work independently and manage workload in a part‑time capacity.
- Professional (preferably a PVG Scheme member or ability to register).
- Relevant experience in occupational therapy within a mental health rehabilitation setting.
- Leadership and innovation skills.
- Knowledge of complex physical health conditions (asset).

Legal and Practical InformationTo work in the United Kingdom you must demonstrate the relevant permission to work in the country, granted by the UK Visa and Immigration Service. The post holder will need a PVG Scheme membership/record. If you are not a current PVG member for the required regulatory group, an application will need to be made to Disclosure Scotland and deemed satisfactory before commencing.
Due to legislative changes from 1 April 2025, the level of criminal records check may change. If the post is assessed as a regulated role, appointment will be subject to joining the Protecting Vulnerable Groups Scheme.
As from 1/4/26, the Agenda for Change full‑time working week will reduce from 37 to 36 hours per week. Part‑time hours will be reduced pro‑rata, with a corresponding increase in the hourly rate to keep pay unaffected.
