NHS Lothian Children’s Speech and Language Therapy Service Band 6 Specialist SLT – Community (Edinburgh) 0.6 wte / 22.2 hours per weekApplications are invited from suitably qualified speech and language therapists to join the Community SLT team in Edinburgh. We have a skill‑mixed team of SLTs and SLT Assistants working in the community team. The post-holder will be based at one of the Edinburgh Health Centres and work in the local Learning Community areas with the full range of community cases and supervision responsibilities for Band 5 Speech and Language Therapists and Assistants.
Each Learning Community has at least one named SLT who predominantly supports that geographical patch. However, the skill‑mixed team provide support across the range of schools as/when needs arise. There may also be opportunities to work within a specialist provision attached to a mainstream school.
You will be an innovative and flexible therapist with experience of working with children and young people with a wide range of speech, language and communication needs. Experience of providing clinical supervision and/or managing a caseload independently would be beneficial.
You will be surrounded by a friendly, experienced and committed Speech and Language Therapy team within the City of Edinburgh.
The Lothian speech and language therapy service is innovative and supportive. It is committed to the principles of clinical governance to provide a high quality service focused on the child’s needs. Support is provided for therapists in district based and clinically focused teams. All therapists have a personal development plan and are encouraged to extend their skills through a variety of CPD activities.

As from 1st April 2026, the Agenda for Change full‑time working week will be reducing from 37 to 36 hours per week. Part time hours will be reduced pro‑rata. However, there will be a corresponding increase in the hourly rate so that pay will not be affected.
