The Post:As part of the Human Resources and Workforce Development Department, the multi-disciplinary Occupational Health, Safety and Wellbeing team aim to improve the health, safety and well‑being of our employees and provide a shared service to Public Health Scotland. This is achieved through working with the organisation to provide the opportunity, ability, support and encouragement to work in ways and in an environment that allows them to sustain and improve employees’ health and well‑being.
We currently have a vacancy for an Occupational Health Advisor. This role provides an extensive remit of services which will include providing a confidential consultation service, remote case management approximately 5‑6 cases daily, immunisation clinics, health surveillance and providing support to managers and staff through day‑to‑day occupational health enquiries. Communicating sensitive information whilst maintaining confidentiality is an essential part of this role.
Applicants will also be required to maintain a computerised and manual system/database for clinical records, deliver management information reports and support Occupational Health at strategic meetings.
The Candidate:You will be a qualified and experienced registered nurse with current NMC registration. You should have post‑registration experience in general nursing and a Specialist Practitioner qualification in Occupational Health Nursing.
Ideally, you will also bring experience or skills in phlebotomy, substantial expertise in conducting pre‑employment health screenings, and the ability to perform return‑to‑work assessments following illness or injury. Experience in providing counselling is also desirable. In addition, you should have a solid understanding of current occupational health issues and relevant legislation.
The successful candidate will be required to undergo a PVG Scheme check. Any candidate who has lived/worked overseas for more than 12 months in the preceding 5 years will also be required to provide a criminal record check from the appropriate overseas agency.
Candidates must have current NMC registration at the time of applying.
Location and Working Pattern:This is currently a hybrid working post; however, you will have a base at either Gyle Square, Edinburgh or Delta House, Glasgow. Some travelling to our other sites will be required.
The working pattern is Monday to Friday, 37 hours per week. However, part time / flexible working and Job Share will be considered (please note we are moving to a 36‑hour working week from 1 April 2026).
It is a condition of this employment that you must live and remain a resident within the UK for the post in which you will be employed with us.
