Description

A HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist is sought to join the Blood Science team in NHS Lothian. Candidates with appropriate laboratory experience at the Biomedical Scientist level (for example a Specialist Portfolio) in Blood Science will be considered for the Band 6 post. Candidates who lack relevant laboratory experience equivalent to a Specialist Biomedical Scientist but are willing to undertake the IBMS Portfolio in Blood Sciences or Biochemistry will also be considered for this post under Agenda for Change Annexe 21.

Eligibility

& Qualifications
  • HCPC registration and sufficient laboratory experience at BMS level in Blood Science.
  • Experience working as a BMS in Biochemistry/Serology, with an interest in developing and improving services.

Blood Science services are provided from the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, Western General Hospital and St John’s Livingston, with this post based at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh (RIE). The Biochemistry/Serology department is fast‑paced and busy, housing core Automated Biochemistry, Toxicology and Microbial Serology. After suitable training the successful candidate will be required to undertake 24/7 duties and provide cross‑site cover when needed.

Agenda

for Change Notice

From 1 April 2026 the Agenda for Change full‑time working week will reduce from 37 to 36 hours per week. Part‑time hours will be reduced pro‑rata, but there will be a corresponding increase in the hourly rate so that pay will not be affected.

Workplace and Legal Requirements
