The Inclusive Education Tutor (IET) is a new strategic Trust role designed to provide guidance, advocacy and tailored support for International Medical Graduates (IMGs), locally employed doctors, neurodivergent trainees, LGBTQ+ and trans trainees, disabled trainees, trainees from ethnic minority backgrounds, and others with protected or underrepresented characteristics at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (GHNHSFT).

The role aims to promote inclusion, health and wellbeing, recognising their importance in supporting individual resilience, enhancing colleagues' capacity to provide support, and ultimately improving patient care. The IET will champion the experiences of these trainee groups, facilitate the sharing of good practice across the Trust, support understanding and feedback on relevant policies and procedures, and help improve the visibility, representation and overall educational experience of under‑represented trainees within the organisation.

duties of the job

This role provides visible, accessible support for International Medical Graduates (IMGs), Locally Employed Doctors (LEDs) and underrepresented trainees across GHNHSFT, promoting inclusion, wellbeing and educational excellence. Working closely with the Director and Associate Directors of Medical Education, the post acts as a key advocate and point of contact, helping to strengthen links with NHS education partners, support recruitment and retention, and evaluate and improve the experience of these groups through feedback, evidence and best practice.

The post leads the development and coordination of tailored induction, mentoring and support programmes, including Welcome to UK Practice, GMC Overseas Doctors Induction and cultural orientation initiatives. Responsibilities include facilitating IMG, LED and trainee forums, collaborating with supervisors and Trust teams, supporting wellbeing and career development, and monitoring themes such as bullying and harassment. The role works with a wide range of stakeholders across the Trust and externally, represents the organisation at relevant networks and meetings, and requires ongoing professional development, including NACT training and GMC‑accredited Educational Supervisor status.

The department of Post‑Graduate Medical Education is committed to supporting the education and development of Doctors/Dentists in Training, Staff Grade and Associate Specialists (SAS) as well as Consultants within their remit of supporting Resident Doctors throughout their career.

We strive to ensure all Medical Staff in Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust have a high‑quality induction to the Trust and department, experience good educational and clinical supervision which facilitates their learning in a safe environment.

We support and organise a wide range of clinical and educational skill development courses from Training the Trainers and Professional and Generic Skills to Simulation Training, Medical Grand Rounds and much more beyond.

The PGME Team includes a role of PGME Workforce lead with responsibility to support Resident Doctors and Educational and Clinical Supervisors. The post holder will work closely with PGME colleagues including the Workforce lead.
