Work Pattern: Permanent,Part Time, 25.2 hours per week

PSD Scotland unites expertise from NES and NSS in a way that will allow us to accelerate national programmes to support the NHS to deliver better care, now and in the future.

We support staff with education and training, provide the tools and data that improve services, and run vital national functions such as procurement, logistics and blood, tissue and cell services.

The Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professionals (NMAHP) Directorate works to support the education, training and continuing professional development of nurses, midwives, allied health professionals, health and social care chaplains and healthcare support workers. The Directorate is also responsible for providing education, training and workforce development across wider professional groups and disciplines, often in partnership with other agencies, to support key policy drivers.

Our Spiritual Care Team is looking for a collaborative and insightful Practice Educator who brings curiosity, professional judgement and initiative – someone who can work across boundaries, ask the right questions, and translate emerging needs into impactful educational design and delivery. Our team designs and delivers a range of education projects and initiatives (including online resources) to support the CPD needs of the spiritual care workforce and wider education relating to spiritual care for the workforce across health, social care, the wider public sector and beyond.

The post holder will be committed to supporting the role that education and workforce development play to ensure that the spiritual care needs of both staff and service users, including family and carers are met across services in Scotland. Collaboration is key to the success of this role, and the post holder will work across professional and organisational structures and boundaries to deliver innovative, inclusive, interprofessional education.

They will be confident in identifying gaps in provision and turning insight, evidence and stakeholder perspectives into practical high‑quality educational solutions. The post holder to work inclusively across all faith and belief paths, ensuring the current approach to Spiritual Care in Scotland is maintained and developed.

Working as a Practice Educator within the team you will ensure that our education resources and initiatives support the delivery of the Scottish Spiritual Care direction, as set out in the Scottish Government’s spiritual care framework ‘Discovering meaning, purpose and hope through person centred wellbeing and Spiritual Care: A National Framework’, published in 2023, the NHS Scotland National Service Specification “Standards for the delivery of compassionate person‑centred Spiritual Care Services”, March 2026, and PSD Scotland’s policy and direction.
