NHS Fife Pharmacy and Medicines Directorate have an opportunity for a permanent post for a Specialist Clinical Pharmacist in Mental Health services.

This role provides a unique opportunity to manage a caseload of patients within inpatient and outpatient mental health settings, and with a variety of mental health conditions, ideally working as an independent prescriber (or working towards independent prescribing qualification), to provide support and advice to patients, carers /families and multidisciplinary teams. You will showcase your pharmacy expertise in safety of prescribing, administration and governance of medicines, and will be accountable to the senior Mental health pharmacist in developing the medication governance of high-risk medicines within inpatient mental health services.

In shaping the development of pharmaceutical care for patients, you will also work closely with the multidisciplinary team and provide specialist pharmacy advice to ensure safe, appropriate and clinically effective use of medicines in line with national and local guidance. You will also work across a range of specialist mental health teams, and cross-sector colleagues: including community mental health teams, primary care and community pharmacies, in providing patient-centred and seamless care.

An independent prescribing qualification (or working towards it) is essential, and completion of the pharmacy foundation programme is desirable. Within your role, you will be supported by the lead pharmacists and will take part in peer-support networks for independent prescribers and specialist-interest pharmacists.

The post will predominantly be based at Queen Margaret Hospital, Dunfermline, although applicants should be able to travel throughout Fife based on service demand.

The NHS Fife Pharmacy and Medicines Service provide an ambitious programme of integrated care to the persons of Fife. It serves a population of approximately 380,000 people and is provided by a team of around 300 Pharmacy staff, including Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, Support Workers, Nurses, and Administrators. The team operate across Acute and Community hospital sites, General Practices, Mental Health services, and a range of specialist teams.
