This is an exciting opportunity to join the Occupational Therapy team within the Adult Learning Disabilities Service. We are a specialist Occupational Therapy Team working across Edinburgh and West Lothian, committed to improving the quality of life and outcomes for our patients. We welcome applications from enthusiastic, motivated and hard-working individuals to join our team who are committed to developing themselves, staff and the Occupational Therapy service.

The primary base/location for this post will be within our West Lothian CLDT, Occupational Therapists based within the Learning Disabilities Teams (CLDT’s) provide assessment and intervention for adults with a Learning Disability, whose complex needs mean they cannot access mainstream services. The caseloads can include, patients with communication difficulties, dementia, mental health needs, Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities, autism, and behaviours which can be seen as challenging.

Assessment and intervention is diverse and varied, allowing OT’s to develop a wide range of specialist skills. Including standardised OT assessment (AMPS and MOHO assessments) and assessments informed by complimentary theoretical frameworks (Sensory Integration, Positive Behaviour Support). Intervention promotes occupational performance and can include skills and engagement, equipment and adaptation, training and support for patients, care staff teams and families.

OT’s will work closely with MDT colleagues, including Social work, Speech and Language Therapy, Physiotherapy, Nursing, Dietetics, Psychology and Psychiatry to provided effective joined up assessment and intervention. Strong teamwork and communication skills are essential.

Professional supervision, training and development are integral to the service. You must have a Degree in Occupational Therapy and be registered with HCPC as an Occupational Therapist. We welcome applicants who have skills that can be transferred into Learning Disabilities and you will be supported to develop to the required level in this speciality.
