Ritson Clinic

This is an exciting opportunity to work in the Ritson Clinic, Royal Edinburgh Hospital. The Ritson Clinic is a 12-bedded inpatient facility, which is part of a multidisciplinary service. It caters primarily for people with alcohol disorders, but many also have other complex needs including drug use and painkiller addiction. Most also have additional mental and /or physical health problems.

The service focus is to support detoxification, improve cognitive impairment, promote recovery and facilitate discharge with appropriate and informed community-based support.

The successful candidate will be part of an occupational therapy and multidisciplinary team within the Ritson Clinic and have close links with occupational therapists working in a range of addictions and mental health teams and services in Edinburgh.

Occupational Therapists bring a broad knowledge base around many health conditions and the impact of social factors on the individual, aiming to explore the impact of alcohol on an individual’s life, and how their occupational participation has been affected by use of alcohol. Working jointly with the individual occupational therapy can address physical, cognitive, emotional, mental health and social issues, and support decision-making around discharge location and support required.

The successful candidate will have leadership and innovation skills and be able to work alone and as part of a multi-professional/ multi-agency team. Excellent team-working skills, enthusiasm and energy are essential assets.

Professional supervision, training and development are integral to the service.
