Specialist Pharmacist NHS Lothian Pharmacy & Medicines Service Western General Hospital Band 7 | 1.0 WTE | 36 Hours Permanent Post £52,845 - £61,466 per annum (includes weekends, on call and public holiday commitment)

This position offers you the chance to make a meaningful impact on the care of frail older people across our admissions and downstream MOE wards.

• Play a key role in the pharmaceutical care of older people.
• Collaborate closely with the MOE pharmacy team and supportive wider multidisciplinary team (MDT) to optimise patients’ medicines and care.
• Support and develop other members of the pharmacy team.
• Undertake service improvement, quality improvement, research and leadership activities, supported by experienced senior pharmacists.
• Develop your practice in line with the Royal College of Pharmacy Advanced Pharmacy Practice Curriculum, working towards and achieving credentialling as part of your professional development.

The Western General Hospital (WGH) is a large teaching hospital offering best practice across a wide variety of specialist services. It is conveniently located near the city centre with easy access to local facilities and transport routes. This is an exciting time for the WGH MOE service with significant developments and new investment in the MOE pharmacy team. This allows us to deliver care earlier in the patient journey, avoiding unnecessary admissions and minimising length of stay, as part of ongoing Healthcare Improvement Scotland Frailty work developing the front door frailty service.

You will have the chance to work on:

• MOE ward rounds in the Medical Assessment Unit and in the specialist MOE admissions unit.
• Downstream ward multidisciplinary team meetings / ward rounds.
• Service development projects aimed at improving patient care and modernising service delivery. This is an ideal progression opportunity for a rotational pharmacist, or a specialist pharmacist looking to provide holistic care to frail older adults.

We’re looking for someone with:

• A Master of Pharmacy Degree (or equivalent) and General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) registration.
• Completion of or have equivalent competence mapped to the RPS post-registration foundation pharmacist curriculum.
• A commitment to improving patient care through pro-active, evidence-based pharmaceutical services.
• Experience in influencing prescribing practices and working in a patient-focused environment.
