About the Role:

Join the Thunder cats Team, responsible for real-time platforms that collect, process, analyze, and distribute operational data from thousands of energy assets and sensors worldwide. Our systems provide critical insights into power grids, power plants, transmission infrastructure, industrial facilities, and large energy consumers helping customers monitor performance, detect events, and improve operational reliability.

Voltron

Wood Mackenzie's primary operational intelligence platform, providing real-time visibility into energy infrastructure through monitoring, analytics, visualization, and event management capabilities.

Current focus:
Re-architecture, performance improvements, reliability enhancements, new features, and 3D visualization support.

Sensor & Integration Services

Backend services supporting Eagle and Polaris sensors, data ingestion pipelines, and integrations with downstream platforms such as PowerRT.

Current focus:
Expanding sensor capabilities, improving data quality, enhancing integrations, and supporting new products and services.

Your Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain large-scale real-time data processing systems
  • Design and implement new product features for internal and external customers
  • Improve performance, scalability, reliability, and observability across platforms
  • Contribute to cloud migration and modernization initiatives (AWS and Azure)
  • Work with IoT sensor data, event streams, and operational analytics
  • Maintain, enhance, and document existing systems
  • Collaborate with product, engineering, and domain experts across the organization
  • Participate in architecture, design, and operational excellence initiatives
  • Work as part of an international agile team
Current Tech Stack:
  • Python, PostgreSQL, Kafka
  • Frontend:
    React, JavaScript, CSS
  • Apache Airflow for workflow orchestration
  • AWS and Azure cloud services
  • Additional downstream integration technologies
Required Skills:
  • Python development
  • Database knowledge (SQL, performance tuning)
  • Git version control
  • AWS cloud services (RDS, Kinesis/MSK, ECS, S3, EC2, Cloud Formation)
  • AI/Machine Learning experience
  • Ability to learn new technologies
Nice to Have:
  • Java development
  • Frontend experience (React, Angular, CSS, HTML, JavaScript)
  • Dev Ops skills (automation, monitoring, alerting, CI/CD, Cloud Formation)
  • Experience migrating systems to the cloud
