Position Overview
NHS Lothian Staff Bank Supplementary Staffing Service is looking for face‑to‑face interpreters for Arabic, Bengali, Kurdish Sorani, Kurdish Kurmanji, Turkish and Vietnamese languages. We offer two bands:
Interpreters (Band
4) T218A at £23.20 per hour and Qualified Interpreters (Band
6) T219A at £28.32 per hour.
- Provide interpreting services on an on‑demand basis across NHS sites.
- Work flexible shift patterns; shifts may be booked online or by phone.
- Submit availability in advance and accept bookings as demand arises.
- Travel between jobs for gaps of 60 minutes or less is paid; travel to the first and last appointments is not paid.
- Participate in an online mandatory induction programme.
- Full proficiency in one or more of the specified languages.
- Experience as a qualified interpreter (Band 4 or
6). Preference for those with at least three years of previous employment. - Ability to provide quality patient care and demonstrate the organisational values.
- Must be able to work on a demand‑led basis without guaranteed fixed hours.
We especially need female interpreters to work in areas where a shortage exists, such as Women’s Services. A general occupational exemption under the Equality Act 2010 Schedule 9 applies.
Compensation and Work TermsInterpreters are paid for a minimum of one hour, with 15‑minute increments thereafter. Travel time between appointments with 60 minutes or less is paid; travel to and from the first and last appointment is not paid.
Interview ScheduleInterviews will be held on 1st July.
ReferencesReferences will only be taken up for preferred candidates following interview. A minimum of three years previous employment is required; please provide details for at least two referees, including present or most recent employers.
