Position: Employment Solicitor - 1 - 3 PQE - Tier 1 Work
For years, there was a fairly simple assumption with employment law. If you wanted the really big national clients and the genuinely heavyweight work, eventually somebody would tell you that you needed to go to London. That argument is getting harder and harder to make. I'm looking to speak with Employment Solicitors in Edinburgh, probably from around 1 year PQE upwards, who like the idea of doing proper national-level employment work while remaining firmly based in Scotland.

That means major employers. Complex advisory work. Tribunal litigation. Projects where employment isn't just brought in at the end to tidy things up, but is part of the wider commercial conversation from the start. And importantly, this isn't one of those opportunities where "national work" actually means sitting in Edinburgh doing support work for lawyers somewhere else. The Scottish market has changed.

A number of firms are continuing to invest properly in employment north of the border and there are now some very good options for lawyers who want more sophisticated work without sacrificing the life they've built here. I'm particularly interested in speaking with people from around 1–3 years PQE at the moment. You might be perfectly happy where you are.

You might simply be wondering whether you're getting enough client exposure, whether the work is stretching you or whether the next couple of years are actually going to take you where you want to go. All completely fair questions. Employment remains one of the busier areas of the Scottish legal market and good lawyers still have considerably more choice than they perhaps realise.
