Cleaning Operative – Greendykes Childrens Centre
Salary: £26,205 – £26,525 (pro rata for part time).
Hours:
15 per week, 52 weeks a year.
Working hours:
4‑7 pm Monday‑Friday.
As a cleaner with the City of Edinburgh Council, you will be a key member of the Facilities Management team, delivering essential cleaning services across the council estate. The role offers above‑market rates, secure employment and flexible conditions to support work‑life balance.

- Empty litter and recycling bins.
- Clean all surfaces, internal glass, floors, furniture, fixtures and fittings within a group of buildings.
- Clean sanitary areas, toilets and showers, and replenish washroom consumables.
- Provide emergency and reactive cleaning as required, e.g. removal of graffiti, body fluid spillages, accidental spillages.
- Care for and maintain equipment used in the cleaning tasks.
- Support cleaning tasks across other buildings when required.
- Meet the cleaning specification requirements and cooperate with performance measurement to maintain agreed standards.
As part of the duties, the Cleaning Operative will be a key holder, operating security alarm systems, closing windows and doors, switching off lights, and ensuring premises are secure when closed.
Qualifications and Checks- Regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007.
- Must join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check.
- Individuals who have spent a continuous period of 3 months or more outside the UK in the last 5 years must provide an Overseas Criminal Record Check.
- Employment offer is contingent on satisfactory outcomes of the PVG and Overseas Criminal Record Checks.
