We are seeking a highly skilled Health and Safety Lead with a strong background in heavy industry to join our team.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for rigorously overseeing health and safety policies and procedures across project work sites and the head office, ensuring strict compliance with regulations. The encumberment will lead and manage the health and safety team identify and implement health and safety initiatives across the company. The role of Health & Safety Lead is crucial in fostering a safety‑conscious culture, proactively identifying potential risks, and ensuring the utmost protection of employees, clients, and members of the public.
RoleSummary
As the Health & Safety Lead reporting to the Managing Director and having a direct line to the Coriant Group SHEQ Lead, your primary responsibilities will evolve with the role, initially focusing on:
- Mentoring, coaching and resource allocation of the Health & Safety team to ensure compliance with the integrated management system including the ISO 45001, 9001 and 14001 standards.
- Working with the compliance team to ensure adherence to all relevant health and safety legislation, including HSE guidelines and other UK/European regulations.
- Monitoring and updating on internal and external legislation changes and adjusting health and safety practices accordingly.
- Developing, monitoring, and reviewing risk assessments, method statements, and safe working practices to ensure they meet legal and industry standards.
- Manage and conduct site inspections and audits to identify and mitigate potential hazards or unsafe working conditions. Monitoring and analysing results of safety inspections across the company to identifying trends and to enhance levels of compliance.
- Liaising with the contracts team to ensure that corrective actions are taken and safety issues are addressed promptly and actions are effective.
- Maintaining accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, and accidents, ensuring timely reporting to authorities as required. Monitoring incident and accident trends and implementing actions to enhance our health and safety performance.
- Promote the Safety Observation Reporting system, analysing results and providing feedback across all levels of the organisation.
- Issue safety advice including toolbox talks, safety moments and weather warnings to support operational and safety requirements.
- Ensure compliance with the CDM Regulations and fulfilment of Principal Contractor/Principal Designer duties where applicable.
- Working with the Compliance and Training teams to develop and deliver training to ensure compliance knowledge across the business.
- Working with the Compliance and Estimating teams in providing H&S information and evidence for pre‑qualifications, tenders submissions, and company accreditations, liaising with accreditation bodies and hosting audits as required.
- Working with Compliance and Operations on contract reviews, operations and lessons learnt regarding H&S requirements.
- Managing day‑to‑day premises health & safety requirements.
