Due to an internal promotion, we’re hiring an Operations Controller. Reporting to the Operations Shift Supervisor (OSS), the Duty Operations Controller (DOC) is tasked with facilitating the effective delivery of the Company’s flying programme, including Search and Rescue (SAR), VIP charter and bespoke trial support aircraft, whilst considering the safety, legal and commercial implications of your actions.
Responsibilities- Maintain an accurate flight watch of all company aircraft.
- Co‑ordinate the expeditious dispatch of SAR, VIP, and trial support aircraft to minimise delays and client inconvenience.
- Flight planning – filing flight plans, coordinating with civil and military ATC where required.
- Manage ATC slots using the CFMU portal.
- Weather and NOTAM monitoring.
- Arrange handling, airport slots, fuel, PPR and necessary permits.
- Arrange crew HOTAC and transport as required.
- Resource allocation and supervision of ramp staff and GSE.
- Monitor crew FTL’s, ensuring they operate within limitations.
- In case of an emergency, initiate the Company’s Emergency Response Plan (ERP).
- Close liaison with all departments within the Company, external customers, and 3rd party suppliers.
- Commit to the highest standards of Flight and Ramp Safety, client care and commercial awareness.
- Report any policy breaches to the Operations Shift Supervisor and Operations Manager swiftly.
- Coordinate the recovery of aircraft breakdowns (AOG) and other operational limitations that affect the aircraft flying schedule.
- Maintain strong working relationships with our home base airports to ensure local restrictions do not jeopardise the flying program.
- Any other duties reasonably requested by management within the capability of the incumbent.
- Strong academic achievement, typically to GCSE standard or equivalent in science‑based disciplines.
- At least one year’s experience in an operations department.
- Knowledge of civilian aircrew/commercial aviation rules and regulations.
- Knowledge of crew planning and rostering systems.
- Understanding of crew rostering issues and the ability to manage resources of a group of staff whose performance is determined by Managers outside their own department.
- Articulate and capable of building credible, trusting relationships both within and outside of own department.
- Right to work in the UK and hold a valid UK Driving Licence.
- Successful completion of company‑sponsored Counter Terrorism Check (CTC) and/or Security Check (SC) Clearance.
- Highly numerate and analytical with a proven record of managing change, complexity, and ambiguity.
- Self‑starting and motivated individual with strong interpersonal skills.
- Strong IT literacy, capable user of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel).
- Works on own initiative, requiring minimal guidance.
- Proactively seeks new ways of working to improve overall business performance.
- Assertive and constructive problem‑solving nature.
- High level of energy and self‑motivation, often working under pressure and tight deadlines.
- Articulate and can build credible trusting relationships both within and outside of own department.
