APEAS - Executive Director
Closing date for applications: 17th July 2026. Interviews expected in August; start date negotiable.
Salary: £50,000 per annum (pro-rata).
Hours:
22.5 hours per week – annualised.
Place of work:
Anchored Hybrid (minimum 1 day/week in‑person).
This role is essential to manage and administer the Part 3 Examination and oversee the efficient operation of APEAS.
Job Description General OverviewThe Executive Director reports to the APEAS Board, administers the Part 3 Examination, liaises with stakeholders, and acts as the public face of the organisation.
Strategic RoleDay‑to‑day management of the organisation; accountable to the Board; collaborate with stakeholders to deliver the Part 3 Examination and foster growth.
Committee Meetings- Board (4‑5 per year)
- Examination Committee and sub‑committees
- Practice Examiners Committee
- Annual General Meeting
- Responsibilities: review appointments, prepare agendas, attend meetings, issue minutes, provide financial information, arrange venues/online meetings.
- Maintain up‑to‑date process manual.
- Ensure all policies/procedures are compliant with UK legislation.
- Write and amend policies and guides as required.
- Apply policies appropriately.
- Incorporate new ARB Part 3 criteria into examination processes.
- Incorporate new professional experience criteria into processes.
- Stay aware of national/international developments affecting Part 3 Examination.
- Review ARB competency and examination requirements.
- Organise and manage ARB Prescriptions and RIBA Validations.
- Write and amend documentation for ARB/RIBA.
- Organise visits by ARB/RIBA.
- Write annual ARB monitoring report.
- Compile and forward statistical information to Board, committees, ARB/RIBA/RIAS.
- Organise annual Examiners’ training and Mentor training events.
- Develop and deliver training programmes, coordinate venues, invite participants, arrange external trainers.
- Organise and manage registration of candidates.
- Communicate with examiners and candidates.
- Produce Practice Paper annually.
- Appoint and pair examiners.
- Appoint external examiners.
- Allocate candidates for interview.
- Approve/organise venue for Oral examinations.
- Review Moderation processes with Examination Committee.
- Deal with day‑to‑day queries from Examiners, PSAs, Candidates.
- Provide information and advice.
- Review marketing/advertising requirements.
- Maintain online presence on social media – Instagram.
- Attend University events to present to students.
- Participate in outside events to promote APEAS.
- Provide updated budget information to Board meetings.
- Manage bank accounts and report to Board.
- Handle finances, authorisation, and payments in line with Delegation of Authority.
- Discuss examination fee setting with Board.
- Supervise administrative staff.
- Monitor staff output, conduct annual reviews.
- Review staff roles for efficiency and effectiveness.
- Review procedures and policies for employment, health & safety, equal opportunities.
- Review and maintain GDPR policies.
- Maintain risk registers, update Board.
- Organise and manage award ceremony.
- Manage and develop APEAS website.
- Ensure secure IT services via provider, maintain cyber security measures.
- Review and replace IT equipment/services as required.
- Essential: Qualified to degree level or demonstrates significant relevant experience
- Desirable: Possesses a post‑graduate qualification; member of a recognised professional body(ies)
- Essential: Held a senior level post in an organisation for minimum five years; experience of financial management including setting and implementing budgets
- Desirable: Held a senior level position within further or higher education; knowledge of construction sector and professional bodies; experience reporting to a board or oversight body
- Essential: Knowledge and understanding of quality assurance systems; business financial management; compliance management for similarly sized organisations
- Desirable: Understanding of quality assurance systems in higher/further education; understanding of the role of Part 3 Examination in architects’ education or comparable qualification
- Essential: Honest and reliable; commitment to high standards; self‑motivated; hardworking; flexible; maintain good working relationships with stakeholders; work independently and as part of a team; make decisions
- Essential: Excellent IT skills plus knowledge of social media systems; excellent oral and written communication skills; good planning and organisation skills
- Desirable: Ability to analyse statistical information; experience with database and social media systems
