About Us

The Northern Lighthouse Board is the General Lighthouse Authority for Scotland and the Isle of Man, responsible for the superintendence and management of all lighthouses, buoys and beacons within those waters. We have provided this vital safety service to mariners since 1786.

The Role – Overview

Based at the NLB’s Headquarters in Edinburgh you will support the Programmes and Renewals manager by delivering multi-disciplined projects to implement the capital and revenue works programme. You will take the lead role on allocated projects advising on technical and logistical matters, carrying out preliminary and detailed design work, identification and management of stakeholders, preparing, managing and submitting contract tendering documentation and effectively manage site safety.

You will create and maintain project deliverables: project plan, status reports, project timesheets, estimates, communication plan, reports, risk management plan, budget, and milestone/deliverable charts.

Salary and Benefits

  • £59,576 per annum rising to £65,526 after 1 year in post.

Qualifications/ Experience Required

  • A degree in an Engineering discipline, preferably Civil Engineering
  • Membership of a relevant professional Institute (APM, MICE, AMICE, RICS, IET, IENG)
  • Hold a recognised Project Management Qualification (preferably APM) and have 3-5 years delivering projects as a Project Manager
  • Demonstrable working knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental legislation, CDM regulations, quality and procurement standards
  • Proven experience of supervising multi disciplinary projects and teams
  • Ability to advise on complex matters effectively at Senior Management level
  • Budget Management skills:
    Ability to analyse and review financial plans and related budgetary information to determine the impact on a project.
  • Experience working with historic buildings and traditional building techniques would be advantageous.
