Manpower Scotland is delighted to be recruiting for a Production Planner on behalf of a well-established and innovative manufacturing business based near Portobello, Edinburgh. This is a fantastic opportunity for a Mechanical Engineering graduate looking to begin their career within manufacturing, operations or production planning, or for someone with previous experience in production planning or scheduling who is looking to take the next step in their career.

You'll become part of a collaborative and supportive team where you'll gain exposure to all aspects of the manufacturing planning process. This is a varied role that offers the opportunity to work closely with Production, Procurement, Quality and Engineering teams, playing an important part in ensuring customer orders are delivered on time while maintaining an efficient production schedule. If you enjoy analysing data, solving problems and working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment where no two days are the same, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.

The Role

As a Production Planner, you'll be responsible for creating and managing short-term production schedules to ensure manufacturing operations run efficiently and customer requirements are met. Working with a range of internal departments, you'll monitor production capacity, material availability and manufacturing priorities, ensuring production orders are released at the right time and resources are utilised effectively. You'll also identify potential bottlenecks, help resolve scheduling challenges and contribute towards continuous improvement across the planning function.

Key Responsibilities
  • Create and maintain short-term production schedules to meet customer demand.
  • Review and adjust production plans in line with changing priorities.
  • Monitor production capacity and material availability before releasing work orders.
  • Convert planned orders into production orders and monitor progress through to completion.
  • Identify production constraints, bottlenecks and potential delivery risks.
  • Work closely with Production, Procurement, Quality, Design and Project teams to ensure accurate planning information.
  • Maintain accurate ERP/MRP system data and produce planning updates where required.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance planning efficiency, scheduling accuracy and production performance.
About You

We're looking for someone who is organised, analytical and eager to build a successful career within manufacturing.

  • A Mechanical Engineering graduate looking for your first permanent opportunity within manufacturing or production planning.
  • An experienced Production Planner, Production Scheduler or Materials Planner looking to further develop your career within a growing business.

You also bring:

  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • A high level of attention to detail.
  • Good Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Experience using ERP/MRP systems would be advantageous, with SAP knowledge being beneficial but not essential.
  • Strong communication skills and the confidence to work collaboratively across multiple departments.
  • A proactive attitude and a willingness to learn and develop.
