The Dormant Distillery Company operates one of the world’s leading whisky specialist retailers and wholesalers, Royal Mile Whiskies. Founded in 1998, the company also runs a specialist tobacconist on the Royal Mile - The Cigar Box - and, in 2011, opened specialist drinks retail shops in Edinburgh and Pitlochry under the Drink monger brand, with the vision of providing Scotland’s most comprehensive range of quality alcohol products.

The Role

The Marketing Officer will report to the Marketing Manager and work closely with Profit Centre Heads across the business with a primary focus on Retail, Trade and Events.

This role supports the delivery of brand-led marketing activity that builds awareness, reputation and engagement for our physical retail shops, trade business and flagship events. While the focus is on brand presence/building, partnerships and community-building, all marketing activity is commercially mindful to support growth.

This is a hands‑on creative role, suited to someone who enjoys being involved in day‑to‑day execution (creating content, managing social channels and supporting campaigns) while also contributing ideas and developing partnerships that drive footfall, trade engagement and event awareness.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with senior Marketing colleagues to support the development and delivery of integrated marketing plans aligned with wider business goals, with particular focus on Retail, Trade and Events profit centres.
  • Deliver marketing activity that builds brand awareness and engagement, including campaigns to:
    • Drive footfall to physical retail stores
    • Support Trade initiatives and increase B2B account growth
    • Increase awareness and ticket sales for flagship events
  • Manage day‑to‑day social media activity across relevant channels, including content planning, scheduling, community management and responding to customer enquiries in a timely, brand‑appropriate way.
  • Create high‑quality brand‑led content including product photography, short‑form video and event coverage, ensuring content is optimised for each platform and supports brand positioning.
  • Support retail marketing activity such as local campaigns, in‑store promotions, advertising and collaborations designed to increase awareness and footfall.
  • Support the Trade team with tailored marketing activity including campaign support, content that supports sales teams and initiatives that help generate and engage on‑/off‑ trade accounts.
  • Support marketing activity for events, including campaign execution, content creation, social promotion and partner collaboration to drive awareness and ticket sales.
  • Research, develop and help manage partnerships and influencer collaborations, including identifying opportunities with other businesses, influencers, creators or media partners and supporting projects end‑to‑end.
  • Assist with brand‑building initiatives such as award submissions, PR support and reputation‑led campaigns.
  • Collect and report on performance metrics across social and email channels, providing insight into engagement, reach and opportunities for improvement.
  • Work closely with internal teams across Retail, Trade, Events and Marketing to ensure marketing activity is delivered on time and aligned with business priorities.
  • Support additional marketing and communications activities as they arise.
Skills & Experience Essential
  • 2 - 4 years’ experience in a marketing or communications role
  • Experience creating, scheduling and managing social media content for brands
  • Strong copywriting skills for social, email or campaign content with a clear understanding of tone of voice and audience.
  • Confident capturing product photography and short‑form video using a camera or smartphone
