Canongate Books is one of the UK’s leading independent publishers and they are looking for a passionate and creative Marketing Assistant to join their campaigns team. The role is full-time and will be based in their Edinburgh office.
The Marketing Assistant will play a key role within the marketing team, supporting them in delivering excellent, market-leading campaigns, ensuring Canongate’s titles are discovered by new readers and achieving best possible sales. The Marketing Assistant will also help to grow the profile of Canongate’s corelist (backlist) titles.
The ideal candidate will be a passionate reader and a team player with excellent organisational skills, the ability to write persuasive copy and communicate effectively both externally – with brands, partners, authors and readers – and internally within the campaigns team and the wider company. They will be enthusiastic about Canongate’s whole list, not just the new books, and most importantly they will be full of ideas, with a desire to explore new ways of telling readers about Canongate’s books.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the team in planning and executing marketing campaigns for Canongate
- Providing general administrative support for the marketing department including organising meetings, arranging book mailings, processing invoices, helping with book fair and sales conference organisation, ordering books, managing the proof schedule etc.
- Leading on Canongate’s reader outreach, managing their Netgalley account and taking an active role in growing their influencer relationships
- Working alongside the digital team to create attention-grabbing content for the website, newsletters and social media channels
- Tracking, reviewing and communicating digital analytics across social media, website and newsletters
- Producing sell-in, presentation and point-of-sale material for the sales department
- Assisting with refreshing keywords and descriptive copy to increase discoverability of Canongate titles

- Confident grasp of social media, especially video content
- Able to respond flexibly to a busy workload and multiple deadlines
- Confident communication skills
- Passionate interest in writing and developing copy
The ability to adapt and quickly familiarise with new IT programs, experience with Adobe Photoshop and InDesign is desirable
Salary
: £26,000
