Fundraiser

Firefly International’s vision is to promote peace, stability and tolerance in communities affected by war. We support locally-led projects in areas severely affected by conflict that provide safe and inclusive spaces for children to learn and thrive. By focusing on education, the arts, health and well-being, we help to reduce local tensions and promote peaceful dialogue. Currently we support projects in Bosnia Herzegovina and Syria, and support Palestinian communities through funding to partners in Palestine and Egypt.

Firefly International is looking for a part-time Fundraiser to lead our work on legacy giving. The Fundraiser position is a new post for Firefly International. This position has been made possible through a specific three-year grant we have been awarded to improve our organisational capacity and strengthen our fundraising systems, in particular for legacy giving. We are currently finalising a strategy for legacy and in memory giving and this post will be key for its delivery.

The main purpose of this post is to lead the development of this work on legacy giving and related organisational capacity development, to play a key role in Firefly’s wider fundraising and to co-ordinate closely with other colleagues in our small team of four, particularly those working on finance and on communications and external engagement. The objective of this post is to strengthen Firefly’s current fundraising approaches and systems with the ultimate aim of increasing the charity’s income and thereby the support available for our partners and the children our joint work serves.

• Leading work to develop and deliver Firefly’s legacy fundraising approach as a key element within a wider fundraising strategy including in memory giving, community fundraising, etc.
• Identifying related capacity improvements required (e.g. database use, CRM information quality, external communications materials, etc.) and implementing such improvements.
• Contributing to Firefly’s wider fundraising strategy development and delivery.
• Representing Firefly when required, for example at meetings with potential donors, supporters or at fundraising events.
• Helping to shape strategies for, and undertaking, supporter engagement and stewardship.
• Managing key relationships across the Firefly team, Board, with supporters, their families and important interlocutors such as solicitors.

This Fundraiser post has no supervisory responsibilities. However, responsibilities may periodically, and in agreement with the post-holder, involve the oversight and support of volunteers or interns.

• At least 3 years’ experience of fundraising, including of legacy fundraising.
• At least 3 years’ experience of supporter stewardship and engagement.
• Sensitivity and strong communication skills – the ability to engage a variety of people on potentially difficult topics and advocate and express themselves clearly.
• People skills and experience of relationship management.
• Attention to detail and a methodical approach to internal systems and external communications.
• Experience of financial management and analysis of fundraising income.
• Experience of and competence in using CRM systems, preferably Donorfy (Firefly’s CRM).
• Understanding of the constraints of a small charity, and willingness to be adaptable and supportive member of a small team.
• Fluent English and strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Membership of Chartered Institute of Fundraising
• Knowledge of the Scottish charity sector and/or of global development work.
• Knowledge and experience of ‘in memory’ giving.
• Knowledge and experience of fundraising for charity endowment funds.
• Training qualifications in CRM systems and/or fundraising.
