Position: Locum Anaesthetics & Recovery Practitioners (RN/ODP)
Location: City of Edinburgh

Anaesthetics & Recovery Practitioners - Scotland

We are currently seeking experienced Anaesthetics and Recovery Practitioners to support busy theatre departments in East Scotland. You would be working with a dynamic perioperative team.

In this role, you’ll deliver high‑quality, patient‑centred anaesthetic care across a range of surgical specialities. You’ll work alongside Consultants, Theatre Practitioners, and the wider multi‑disciplinary team to ensure safe and effective clinical practice.

About the Role

You will play a vital role within the perioperative team, delivering safe, high-quality care to patients undergoing surgical procedures. Opportunities are available in both Anaesthetics and Recovery You’ll work alongside Consultants, Theatre Practitioners, and the wider multi‑disciplinary team to ensure safe and effective clinical practice.

Requirements
  • Registered Practitioner (ODP or RN with relevant anaesthetics/recovery experience)
  • Valid HCPC or NMC registration
  • Minimum of 18 months recent UK experience in Anaesthetics and/or Recovery
  • Up‑to‑date mandatory training and compliance
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the anaesthetist during the preparation, administration, and monitoring of anaesthesia
  • Prepare and check anaesthetic equipment, drugs, and airway devices
  • Monitor patients’ vital signs throughout procedures and
    * escalate* concerns appropriately
  • Provide high‑quality post‑anaesthetic care in the recovery area, ensuring patient safety and comfort
  • Manage airways, pain control, and post‑operative monitoring in line with local policies
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation
  • Adhere to infection prevention, health and safety, and clinical governance standards
  • Communicate effectively with multidisciplinary theatre teams
  • Respond appropriately to emergency situations and airway complications
