About the RoleWe are seeking experienced registered nurses, mental‑health nurses, or midwives to work at Chalmers Gender Identity Clinic (GIC). The GIC is part of Lothian Sexual and Reproductive Health Service (LSRHS) which operates from Chalmers Centre and 10 local clinics. The post holder will predominantly work within the GIC with opportunities to work in the wider services offered by the main Chalmers Centre.
Training will be provided to develop knowledge in assessment, treatment, and review of patients accessing gender‑identity services, and to manage initial and ongoing care of our service users.
The post holder will also participate in caring for people with a variety of sexual and reproductive health issues and share in the management and leadership of the nursing team.
Usual working hours are Monday to Friday 08:30‑16:30 or 12:00‑20:00 with opportunities for long days and unsocial hours. Travel to local clinics throughout Lothian and flexible delivery of care via telephone or video consultations may be required.
Essential Criteria- First‑level registered nurse, mental‑health nurse or midwife with current NMC registration and post‑registration qualification in sexual and reproductive health, with a minimum of two years post‑registration experience in sexual health, gender‑identity/trans‑healthcare or another directly related area.
- Independent non‑medical prescribing qualification or willingness to work towards this.
- Comfortable assessing and documenting psychosocial aspects of care.
- Evidence of a non‑judgemental, person‑centred approach, initiative, independent working, effective communication, highly developed clinical consultation skills, and willingness to work unsocial hours and travel independently to local clinics throughout Lothian.
- Flexibility and willingness to work across all areas of the LSRHS, including delivering care via telephone or video consultations.
- Desirable: evidence of teamwork and leadership; competence in contraceptive implant insertion and removal.
- The post is Band 6 on the Agenda for Change payscale.
- PVG Scheme membership/record is required. If the post holder is not a current PVG member for the required regulatory group, an application to Disclosure Scotland must be made and deemed satisfactory before commencement.
- From 1 April 2025, the post may require a different level of criminal records check. If the post is assessed as a regulated role, appointment will be subject to joining the PVG Scheme.
