Senior Gardener Position within our Parks & Green space Operational Service.
Post OverviewThe post will be based at one of our Operational Depots across the city and you will be required to carry out horticultural, landscaping and ground maintenance duties to improve Edinburgh's parks, gardens and green spaces.
A member of a gardening team undertaking horticultural, landscaping and grounds maintenance tasks at various locations across a geographical area.
Responsibilities- Work within a small team managed by a Supervisor Gardener.
- Support your Supervisor Gardener, take instruction and develop team-working within your gardening squad.
- Assist in training and instruction of gardening staff as required.
- Deputise for Supervisors as required by the Service.
- Support and direct, and when appropriate supervise new starts, apprentices, students and other shadow workers, promoting effective team working at all times.
- Work to defined operational standards and all relevant work practices and health & safety guidance as appropriate to the work.
- Use handheld technology to record work, receive instructions and report back on actions or problems identified.
- Assist in the preparation, review and updating of operational risk assessments.
- Operate a range of vehicles, machinery and equipment.
- Assist in determining work practices/arrangements and standards of work, in relation to managing the team on a daily basis.
- Undertake tasks in various settings without constant supervision, either alone or as part of a team depending on the task.
- Duties involve lengthy periods of heavy manual work; work in all weather and ground conditions and in moving traffic.
- Adhere to health and safety guidelines with risk assessments when on site and operate in accordance with the Council's Lone Working policy.
- Knowledge and skills in horticulture and parks and grounds maintenance are required and a relevant qualification to SVQ 2 level or equivalent or evidence of required experience.

Additional InformationOur salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range.
