Quality Engineer Role Purpose
This hands‑on Quality Engineer role provides dedicated daily quality support throughout the Vehicle Build (VB) stage of the programme. The successful candidate will be embedded within the project team, working closely with suppliers, logistics, and development engineers to ensure parts meet specification at every stage — from incoming goods inspection through to production handover readiness.
Requirements — Essential- Proven experience in a hands‑on quality engineering role within an automotive or industrial manufacturing environment
- Competent in operating CMM and 3D scanning equipment and producing dimensional reports
- Practical knowledge of PPAP documentation requirements (all 18 elements desirable)
- Experience applying 8D, 5 Why, and CCAR quality methodologies
- Familiarity with APQP processes and programme milestone management
- Understanding of quarantine, rework, and non-conformance management procedures
- Comfortable working at pace in high‑pressure, fast‑moving project environments
- A lateral thinker with strong problem‑solving instincts and sound judgement under time pressure
- Understanding of Run@Rate processes and OEE measurement
- Exposure to automotive supply chain environments (Tier 1 / Tier 2)
- Experience with customer‑facing quality roles and complaint escalation management
- Familiarity with IATF 16949 or equivalent quality management systems
- Metal stamping and press tool operations
- Thermoforming
- Plastic injection moulding
- Welding (MIG, TIG, or resistance welding as applicable)
- Trim and final assembly operations
Reviewing and approving dimensional reports, material certificates and accompanying documentation prior to part shipment from suppliers, carrying out incoming goods inspections on delivered components and assemblies, operating CMM and scanning equipment to generate clear and accurate measurement reports, and contributing to development loops aimed at continuously improving report quality and content.
Warehouse and inventory managementManaging a small project parts warehouse, maintaining accurate stock records and traceability, implementing and enforcing quarantine procedures for non‑conforming parts, and coordinating rework activities to ensure appropriate documentation and re‑inspection before parts are released.
PPAP and APQP supportProviding practical support in the compilation and submission of PPAP packages, and assisting the project team with APQP activities, milestone tracking and documentation.
Customer complaint managementOwning and managing customer quality complaints relating to the project, driving timely and robust resolutions, applying structured quality tools including 8D, 5 Why and CCAR, and communicating clearly with customers and internal stakeholders throughout the complaint resolution process.
Production readiness and handoverSupporting preparation for handover into series production, including activities aligned to Run@Rate requirements, demonstrating an understanding of OEE and its relevance to production readiness, and actively participating in readiness reviews, risk assessments and sign‑off activities.
