Full Time: 35 hours per week
Fixed Term: 12 months
This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic translational research lab focussed on research in Type 1 diabetes and on optimising islet transplantation outcomes in diabetic rodent models. The post holder will support a number of grant‑funded research programmes examining whether immune cells as well as other drugs improve islet transplant outcomes when delivered with islets at the time of transplant directly into the liver.
The role also offers the chance to collaborate with colleagues in the Institute for Regeneration and Repair and the Cell and Gene Therapy Catapult at the University of Edinburgh.
The lab has several projects funded by charitable foundations and industry, including research with stem cell–derived islets. The team comprises 2 post‑doctoral research scientists, 1 PhD student, 2 laboratory technicians, 2 animal technicians and 2 research coordinators.
Responsibilities- Support grant‑funded research programmes focused on islet transplantation and immune modulation in rodent models.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary colleagues within the Institute for Regeneration and Repair and the Cell and Gene Therapy Catapult.
- Contribute to the planning, execution and analysis of animal studies and related laboratory work.
- Assist in data collection, statistical analysis and preparation of manuscripts for publication.
- Maintain laboratory records, imaging software, and equipment as required.
- Experience working in a team and communicating ideas effectively.
- Ability to think critically and direct independent research projects.
- Current or recent animal licence (essential).
- Proficient laboratory techniques, imaging software, and statistical analysis.
- Excellent publication record with a strong track record of peer‑reviewed articles.
Full‑time, 35 hours per week, 100% on campus.
