NHS Lothian’s Emergency Department has a worldwide reputation for research. To coordinate and support the expanding portfolio of research, audit and service improvement, the Emergency Medicine Research Group Edinburgh (EMERGE) was formed in 2008 and continues to grow.

We are currently recruiting a band 5 Research Project Manager. The post holder will play a key role in ensuring that data relating to the research projects and clinical research studies is collected and maintained to the highest quality standards. They will provide organisational and administrative management to projects and clinical research studies, and promote and assist the ongoing development of systems and processes that support quality data collection and study information management.

The scope of studies and projects is expanding, creating an exciting and leading research specialty to work within.

We are looking for an enthusiastic person with a genuine interest in clinical research, who has experience working in research and/or the Emergency Department and/or an acute care setting. This post will be based at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh but will also work with the teams at the Royal Hospital for Children and Young People and St. John’s Hospital. Having clinical research and/or project management experience in these areas is advantageous.

The successful candidate will need to understand the dynamic and challenging environment of the ED and how that translates to research activity. The post holder will work alongside senior research nurses and will be supported by the EMERGE team. Please see the EMERGE website for more information.

As from 1/4/26, the Agenda for Change full‑time working week will be reducing from 37 to 36 hours per week. Part time hours will be reduced pro‑rata. However, there will be a corresponding increase in the hourly rate so that pay will not be affected.
