Position: 248858 Clinical Fellow in Oncology (JXT)
Location: City of Edinburgh

Overview

NHS Lothian invites applications for a fixed-term (12 months), full-time (40 hours per week) post based in Western General Hospital. The post is intended to support the delivery of equitable access to radiotherapy for patients with oligometastatic disease suitable for radiotherapy by supporting the Oligometastatic SA  Teams across the five cancer centres in Scotland:
Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Inverness. This national role will be based primarily at the Edinburgh Cancer Centre with the aim of realising the vision of improving equity of access and expectation towards oligometastatic treatment for patients across Scotland.

The post involves taking a lead on developing SA  for all organ sites suitable for SA  across the five centres, running oligometastases clinics, and leading the COMET-3 and COMET-10 national clinical oligometastases trials. It also includes developing novel research projects and working with a team of oncologists, physicists and radiographers across the five centres, as well as Research Nurses, Data Managers and Trials Administrators, and the R and D Team to recruit and manage trials patients to meet quality standards and recruitment targets.

The post does not have educational approval from the Postgraduate Dean and will not be recognised for training.

Responsibilities
  • Lead on developing SA  for all organ sites suitable for SA  across the 5 cancer centres.
  • Run oligometastases clinics and manage national clinical oligometastases trials (e.g., COMET-3 and COMET-10).
  • Develop novel research projects and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across centres.
  • Coordinate with Research Nurses, Data Managers, Trials Administrators and the R and D Team to recruit and manage trial patients and ensure quality standards and recruitment targets are met.
