Position

We are recruiting Campus Safety and Support Officers to join our Campus Services team and help deliver a safe, welcoming and well supported campus for students, staff and visitors.

Responsibilities

This is a visible, frontline role combining safety, security, customer support and practical facilities assistance. As an ambassador for the University, you will provide a reassuring presence across campus, supporting the control room, undertaking patrols, responding to incidents and welfare concerns, and acting as a first responder in line with University procedures.

The role is varied and hands on. You will carry out day‑to‑day operational tasks such as porterage, room set‑ups, furniture moves, mail and parcel handling, parking activity and supporting campus presentation. You will also assist with events and out‑of‑hour activity, helping ensure the smooth running of the campus estate.

You will be confident dealing with a wide range of situations, including those that may be sensitive or challenging, and able to exercise sound judgement in a calm and professional manner. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, along with the ability to produce clear and accurate written reports. Good IT skills are also required, as the role involves regular use of control room systems and computer‑based service platforms.

A flexible and practical approach is important. A positive attitude and willingness to support colleagues across the wider team will be key to success in this role.

Shift Pattern

The role holder will work 12 hour shifts on a four shifts on, four days off rota, alternating between day shifts 06:00 to 18:00 and night shifts 18:00 to 06:00. Flexibility is required to attend mandatory training, which may occasionally take place outside the normal shift pattern.

Licensing

An SIA licence is not required to apply, but you will be expected to obtain one as part of the role. Training and support will be provided.
