Location: City of Edinburgh

Security Officer

Full time | 35 hours per week. Salary: £26,881 (£14.71 per hour) plus £4,435 shift allowance.

Hours:

35 hours per week (14 twelve‑hour shifts including weekends and night work over a 28‑day shift cycle, repeated 13 times a year).

Location:

Fully On‑Site.

About the role

Working as part of a professional security team, you will ensure and maintain the security, safety and integrity of all National Museums Scotland buildings and provide a safe and secure environment for all staff, visitors and collections.

Responsibilities
  • Patrol and secure the site to prevent and detect intrusion, flooding or fires.
  • Monitor CCTV systems, assist in preparing footage for investigations.
  • Support Visitor Experience staff in dealing with emergency and conflict situations.
  • Adhere to and apply all Security Control Room and out‑of‑hours procedures, including verification and issuance of identification passes to visitors, contractors and staff.
Qualifications
  • Experience in a security environment.
  • Experience dealing with security incidents or situations requiring an immediate or timed response.
  • Ability to remain calm and positive when dealing with a wide range of enquiries and situations.
  • Knowledge of reception duties and access control for staff, contractors and visitors.
  • Good knowledge of security, fire, intruder and CCTV systems and procedures.
