About the role
At Our Edinburgh and Lothians Outreach Service, we’re dedicated to supporting young people with additional needs, helping them feel connected to their local communities through a person-centred and inclusive approach. Everything we do is rooted in the belief that every young person deserves the chance to thrive, grow, and enjoy a full, meaningful life.
We focus on creating positive, memorable experiences—supporting children and young people to take part in activities they already love, while also encouraging them to discover new interests, explore their surroundings, and build confidence along the way.
The Residential Support Worker role is a wonderful opportunity for an experienced care professional who’s ready to take the next step in their journey. You’ll play a key part in promoting safety, nurturing resilience, and encouraging independence by managing risk in a thoughtful and empowering way.
Day to day, you’ll plan and deliver personalised outreach sessions, spend time getting to know each young person, and support them as they work towards their own goals. We’re looking for someone who brings strong social care values, genuine compassion, and a professional, positive presence that young people can look up to.
When you join our team, you’ll be welcomed into a supportive, purpose‑driven environment where your development matters—and where you’ll have the chance to make a real, lasting difference in the lives of young people every single day.
How you’ll create brighter futures
Some key responsibilities of the Residential Support Worker role include;
- Community Engagement:You'll spend most of your time out and about, supporting our children to access local communities. Whether it's a trip to the beach, an afternoon at the zoo, or playtime in the park, you'll be there to facilitate enriching experiences.
- Personalised Care:You'll get to know each child and young person individually, tailoring your approach to their unique needs. Your planning and delivery of outreach sessions will focus on helping them achieve positive outcomes.
- Advocacy:You'll be their voice, advocating for their rights and ensuring they have equal opportunities. Your commitment to their well-being will create a safe and nurturing environment.
- Collaboration:As part of our multi-disciplinary and multi-agency team, you'll collaborate with professionals, families, and other stakeholders to provide holistic support.
Let’s talk about you
- SVQ Level 3 in Children and Young People / HNC in Social Care, or a genuine enthusiasm to work towards gaining this qualification.
- Experience in a residential care setting is an advantage, but not essential — what matters most to us is your attitude, compassion, and commitment to supporting young people.
- A thoughtful, confident understanding of safeguarding, and the ability to apply these principles in everyday practice.
- A strong commitment to upholding the rights, voices, and wellbeing of the children and young people you support.
- A positive, open approach to learning, with a willingness to engage in the training…
