Overview

Family Support Worker – Early Years Scotland, Edinburgh, Scotland, GB. Join Early Years Scotland’s (EYS) new Family Support Service (FSS) at HMP Dumfries.

Role
:
Lead sessions as part of the EYS FSS at HMP Dumfries and support families affected by imprisonment.

• Enhance the visiting experience: help make visits to loved ones in prison more positive and less stressful.
• Provide essential support: offer independent and impartial advice, information, and tailored support to families’ needs.
• Advocate for families: champion the needs of families within the prison system.
• Connect positively with visitors, providing one-to-one support and valuable information.
• Collaborate with community-based services to develop and enhance the service.
• Work closely with Scottish Prison Service (SPS) staff to ensure a supportive and positive environment.
• Receive ongoing support from the EYS Head of Prisons and Safeguarding.

• Lead sessions and activities, contributing to a welcoming and supportive environment for families.
• Engage with visitors and provide practical information and guidance as needed.
• Coordinate with external services to ensure cohesive support for families.
• Participate in safeguarding and professional development as directed by EYS.

• Hours:
  
  17.5 hours per week over 52 weeks per annum (Thu 1.30pm–4.30pm; Fri 1.30pm–4.30pm; Sat 9:00–13:00; Sun 9:00–13:00; Admin work: 3.5 hours from home).
• Pay and entitlements are pro-rated to hours worked.
• Full benefits: 25 days annual leave in the first year, rising to 30 days thereafter; 12 public holidays per annum; 5% pension contribution;

• PVG Scheme membership will be required.
• There are options for funded posts; this role is funded by the Scottish Government until 31 March (subject to continued funding).
