Software Engineer Graduate Apprenticeship

Leonardo offers a four‑year Software Engineering Apprenticeship scheme in Edinburgh that leads to Graduate Level and a BSc (Hons) in Software Development for Business. The programme combines university teaching with work‑based learning, culminating in Chartered Engineer status.

This apprenticeship is designed for candidates with high school grades (Higher Grade BBBBC) and a strong maths and computing background. Applicants should have an interest in IT and some software experience, though the role is suitable for those with limited prior knowledge.

• Learn to design, programme, integrate and test high‑integrity software, primarily in C++.
• Experience all stages of the software development lifecycle and collaborate with other engineering departments.
• Participate in university classes, seminars and labs; attend weekly sessions as part of the programme.
• Develop software for advanced avionics systems such as the Typhoon radar.

• 5 Higher Grades (or equivalent) BBBBC.
• Mandatory mathematics, preferably including physics and computing.
• National 5 (A‑C) in English (or equivalent).

• Starting salary £21,525.
