Backend Engineer, Internal Tools

The Opportunity At User Testing, the Developer Experience (DX) team builds the internal platforms and tools that engineers use to build, test, and ship software. Our goal is simple: make it easy for engineers to ship high‑quality software quickly and safely. We treat this as a product — engineers are our users, and adoption matters as much as technical excellence. This role is ideal for a backend engineer interested in growing into developer experience and platform engineering.

You’ll contribute to improving developer workflows — including CI/CD, internal tooling, and automation — while continuing to build production backend systems.

• Build and maintain backend services and internal tools that support engineering workflows
• Contribute to CI/CD systems and improvements to how software is built and deployed
• Identify and help address friction in the development lifecycle through automation
• Work with experienced DX engineers to deliver platform improvements
• Collaborate with engineering teams to understand needs and improve developer experience
• Support AI‑enabled improvements in developer workflows where useful

• Solid experience building backend systems in production
• Proficiency in Node.js, Python, or Go
• Experience working with APIs and cloud‑based systems
• Interest in CI/CD, infrastructure, or developer tooling
• Ability to grow into ownership over time with support from the team
• Product mindset: you care about usability and developer experience
• Nice to have:
  Exposure to CI/CD pipelines or developer tooling
• Experience with containers or cloud platforms
• Familiarity with observability (logs, metrics, tracing)
• Interest in automation or AI‑assisted workflows
