About the role
Our overall mission is simple:
Happy customers, travelling safely, on-time. We are looking for a Fleet Manager who will lead the safety, compliance, availability, and cost of Edinburgh Airport’s fleet operation. The Fleet Manager is responsible for the safe, compliant, and commercially efficient management of Edinburgh Airport’s vehicle fleet, ensuring assets are available, fit for purpose, and aligned to operational demand.
The role combines operational control, regulatory compliance, asset lifecycle management, and cost optimisation to support critical airport operations.
You will lead initiatives to foster a strong safety-based culture, engaging employees at all levels. This will include overseeing the development, execution, and review of all risk assessments within fleet maintenance to ensure identification and mitigation of potential hazards, alongside working towards in house MOT and operations licence compliance.
This role will typically be Monday - Friday, but there may be a requirement for flexibility at times due to operational requirements.

About the recruitment processThe interview process for this role will be comprised of one stage, with Senior Managers from our Engineering team and a member of our HR team. It will be a competency based interview, which will include a presentation which we will send more information on prior to your interview. There will also be questions based on Edinburgh Airports values, and technical questions relevant to the role.

About the role (continued)As Fleet Manager, you will lead our fleet maintenance team, working in conjunction with capital projects, finance, procurement, sustainability and the wider engineering to deliver effective fleet operations.
- Operational Fleet & Logistics Control:
Manage daily fleet operations including inspections, allocation, tracking, and maintenance coordination, regulatory compliance (LOLER) - Asset Lifecycle & Fleet Strategy:
Oversee procurement, disposal, and long-term fleet planning ensuring vehicles remain fit for purpose. - Cost Control & Commercial Performance:
Manage budgets, analyse cost drivers, and optimise utilisation for value. - Compliance, Safety & Regulatory Governance:
Ensure full compliance with Operator Licence requirements and maintain audit-ready fleet operations. - Transport Manager Accountability:
Support legal responsibilities including driver compliance, tachographs, maintenance, and safe loading. - Driver & Team Leadership:
Lead, train, and develop operational teams ensuring high standards of safety and service. - Supplier Management:
Manage suppliers and contractors to meet performance and cost targets. - Airport Operations:
Ensure fleet supports critical airport activities and operational resilience. - Sustainability:
Drive fuel efficiency and transition to low-emission vehicles alongside developing our EV fleet and charging infrastructure
What we're looking for
We’re looking for someone with experience in managing a vehicle fleet in a commercial setting, ideally within aviation. You’ll have an understanding of running major vehicle fleets and delivering asset replacement in a complex setting. Strengths:
Leadership - exemplary inter-personal and communication skills, with the ability to self-direct, shape business priorities and lead through situational ambiguity. You can challenge and change behaviours and influence at a senior level. Team working – you can work constructively in and between different teams, and challenge behaviours where necessary to change behaviours. Strategic thinking – you can filter information, see the bigger picture and determine where to focus.
Problem solving – you take a logic driven approach and will be able to quickly develop a deep understanding of Edinburgh systems and operational data. Technical experience - you have knowledge of vehicle maintenance, vehicle licensing, and safety regulations. A full UK driving license is an essential, and additional categories would be desirable. The following additional items are nice to have but are not essential for the role:
Understanding and previous experience of airport operations Degree level qualification in aviation or a relevant discipline Experience as a vehicle mechanic
