The General Surgery Physician Assistant assists, monitors, and manages the day-to-day needs of patients as requested by, in conjunction with, and under the supervision of a physician. Performs the duties and responsibilities of a Physician Assistant according to customary and generally accepted medical standards.
Day shift
- Full time PA position. The general surgery and surgical sub-specialty (Surgical subspecialty service refers to specialties beyond the scope of core general surgery practice. This includes, but is not limited to, Surgical Oncology, Colorectal Surgery, Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, Breast Surgery, Endocrine Surgery, and Head & Neck Oncology) physician assistant manages the day-to-day inpatient and operative needs of surgical patients in conjunction with, and under the supervision of an attending physician.
The PA is responsible for the assessment and management of various patient populations and surgical subspecialties including but not limited to the overall management of a surgical patient, ordering and interpretation of diagnostic testing, development of appropriate plans of care, therapeutic interventions, and intra operative assistance. They maintain a collaborative work environment that is safe, just, and founded on principles of high reliability and quality outcomes for patients and colleagues.
The PA will perform duties in accordance with state and federal regulations as well as network policies, PA scope of practice guidelines, approved clinical privileges and the JFKUMC PA policy. The physician assistant reports to the department clinical lead and Director of Advanced Practice Providers, Physician Assistant. Full time positions include holidays and weekends on a rotational basis. Covers night shifts on an as-needed basis, filling in for regular night shift personnel during vacations, leaves of absence, and other planned or unplanned absences.
- 2 years of General/subspecialty surgery experience is preferred
- Preferred robotic training
Education,
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
1. Successful completion of an approved physician's assistant program, accredited by the AMA Council on Medical Education.
2. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
3. Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms Education,

Required:
1. Physician Assistant License.
2. National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. 3. BLS AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification. Licenses and Certifications Preferred:
1. Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification.
