Project Technical Leader - Wastewater Focused
Join CDM Smith as a Project Technical Leader (PTL) focused on wastewater and water treatment projects. The PTL drives technical vision, supports project delivery, and mentors junior staff.
Job DescriptionThe PTL is an integral part of the Global Delivery Excellence Framework (GDEF). Working closely with the Project Manager (PM) and the client, the PTL ensures that technical design, analysis, and documentation meet regulatory, quality, and schedule standards.
Responsibilities- Coordinate technical content of both design and non‑design projects, focusing on preemptive, preventive, and proactive approaches.
- Create engineering designs for water and wastewater treatment facilities, water and sewer systems, pipelines, pump stations, and related works.
- Review draft designs and reports for compliance with federal, state, and local regulations; sign off on completed designs.
- Perform site‑reviews and studies to ensure designs align with local specifications; update requirements as necessary.
- Develop white papers, technical design documentation, and submit technical papers for publishing in technical journals.
- Collaborate with sales staff to prepare proposals, ensuring adherence to firm, industry, and regulatory best practices.
- Meet with current and prospective clients to discuss design needs; attend conferences and symposia to promote firm’s solutions.
- Provide technical guidance and training to junior staff; mentor and develop staff for future growth.
- Supervise work of junior engineers on project tasks, as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, Chemical Engineering or related discipline.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license.
- 10+ years of related experience.
- Domestic and/or international travel required (approx. 10%).
Professional Engineer license.
Skills & Abilities- Expertise in Computer‑Assisted Design (CAD/CADD) 3‑D and 4‑D software.
- Strong engineering design principles.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Deep knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations.

CompensationPay Range: $114,150 – $199,742 per year. Additional compensation such as bonuses may apply at the company’s discretion.
