Réalis as a Senior Traffic Safety Engineer
. This full‑time, on‑site position requires direct engagement with our client, New Jersey DOT Headquarters at Ewing Township, NJ.
- Work in‑person as an embedded employee five days a week at the New Jersey DOT HQ.
- Design and implement traffic engineering devices, ITS devices (WWD, V2X), and TSMO strategies (geofencing for targeted message sharing) and other roadway safety devices such as guiderails.
- Apply Data‑Driven Safety Analyses, Safe System Approach, New Jersey 2025 Strategic Highway Safety Plan, crash analysis, crash modification factors, FHWA Proven Safety Countermeasures, and their design and implementation.
- Leverage knowledge of intersection control evaluation tools from other states (preferred).
- Occasionally design and develop plans and drawings, including preliminary and final ITS layout and traffic studies.
- Organize and conduct engineering investigations and planning work with a defined scope.
- Support the development of planned/unplanned events, traffic data, road geometrics, construction plans, and other inputs for traffic impact analysis and mitigation strategies.
- Assist in planning, designing, and producing engineering drawings and maps; prepare specifications.
- Conduct engineering investigations and planning tasks, including data collection and analysis, routine calculations, and evaluating alternative solutions.
- Prepare straightforward sections of complex reports under periodic review.
- Research feasibility of alternative design approaches, site conditions, and regulatory specifications.
- Participate in quality control checks, maintaining quality standards, reviewing computations, and design drawings performed by others.
- Coordinate with other disciplines as required; perform field observations of construction where appropriate.
- Perform additional duties as directed by the supervisor.
- B.S. or M.S. in Engineering (or equivalent experience). Typical candidates have six to ten years of experience post‑B.S. or four years post‑M.S.
- Good technical writing, computer, and communication skills.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.).
- Strong knowledge of traffic safety, ITS, and data‑driven analyses.
Expected compensation range: $95,000 – $147,600 annually, depending on skills, experience, and geographical location.
