Overview
Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) at Hackensack Meridian Health. The RRT provides comprehensive respiratory care therapy, including evaluation, treatment techniques, and patient education, under the supervision of the Director of Respiratory Services.
Responsibilities- Assist in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of pulmonary disorder patients in critical and non-critical areas.
- Perform cardiopulmonary evaluation, monitoring, respiratory therapy treatment techniques, respiratory procedures, and patient and family education.
- Acquire, analyze, and interpret data from physiological specimens, performing diagnostic tests and studies related to the cardiopulmonary system.
- Administer and/or monitor medical gases, mechanical ventilation support, artificial airway care, bronchopulmonary hygiene, and pharmacologic agents related to respiratory care procedures.
- Utilize scientific principles for identification, prevention, remediation, research, and rehabilitation of acute or chronic cardiopulmonary dysfunction.
- Administer therapeutic respiratory care procedures and set up related equipment as prescribed by the physician.
- Record all pertinent information of provided therapeutic procedures and patient response in the electronic medical record system, EPIC.
- Set up, verify proper function, operate and monitor all invasive and non-invasive respiratory equipment on patients in need of respiratory assistance.
- Participate in the management of life support systems by recommending and performing appropriate changes based on blood gas results and weaning studies.
- Respond to and participate in all emergency and trauma codes.
- Oversee the clinical performance of Certified Respiratory Care Technicians to assure clinical compliance to department policies and procedures.
- Change and maintain ventilators and ventilator circuits in accordance with the Infection Control Policy.
- Run quality controls on blood gas analyzers.
- Monitor and change all manifolds, including emergency oxygen, nitrous oxide, and nitrogen manifold cylinders.
- Retrieve, clean and assemble all respiratory equipment using disinfecting solutions and cleaning agents in accordance with infection control protocols.
- Identify the needs of the patient population served and modify and deliver care specific to those needs.
- Lift a minimum of 35 lbs, push and pull a minimum of 165 lbs, and stand a minimum of 6 hours a day.
- Adhere to the standards identified in the Medical Center's Organizational competencies.
- Perform other work as requested by the Director or his designee.
- Graduate of an AMA approved Respiratory Care program.
- Associate degree.
- Comprehensive knowledge of all clinical aspects of Respiratory Care.
- NJ Registered Respiratory Therapist Certificate.
- AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification.
- NJ Respiratory Care Practitioner License.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support Certification.
Minimum hourly rate $43.65. The posted rate is a reasonable good faith estimate of the minimum base pay for this role at the time of posting in accordance with the New Jersey Pay Transparency Act.
