Nursing Unit Secretary – Outpatient Infusion – Per Diem Day

Responsibilities
  • Perform a variety of administrative tasks to support the daily workflow of the nursing unit as directed by the Registered Nurse in Charge.
  • Act as a liaison in receiving patients, visitors, and hospital personnel.
  • Manage the unit's communication systems to address needs of patients, families, doctors, and nursing staff (answer phones, call-bells, Careboard).
  • Ensure adequate maintenance of supplies and equipment to support the needs of patients and the functionality of nursing units.
  • Attend unit-based staff meetings and support nursing staff as needed.
  • Prepare, compile, and maintain the patient’s medical record, ensuring accurate labeling and filing of information using appropriate patient identifiers.
  • Enter physicians’ orders into the computerized order entry system.
  • Prepare discharge and/or transfer documentation.
  • Assist physicians in retrieving records and automated diagnostic results.
  • Maintain timely Patient Horizon Scheduler (PHS).
  • Assist the Nurse Manager with preparing unit-based documents such as meeting minutes, memos, and other clerical duties.
  • Participate in daily rounds to ensure patient safety and promote a positive patient and family experience.
  • Perform environmental rounds to ensure a safe and risk‑free environment with follow‑up on identified issues to completion.
  • Takes necessary steps to reduce risks and reports all environmental and safety hazards to the registered nurse or charge nurse; assists when necessary in emergency situations.
  • Attend unit‑specific staff meetings to keep abreast of changes in the department and medical center.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
  • Adhere to HMH’s organizational and managerial competencies and standards.
  • Lifts a minimum of 5 lbs, pushes and pulls a minimum of 5 lbs, and stands a minimum of 1 hour a day.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
  • Computer proficiency required.
  • 1–2 years of prior experience as a secretary in an acute care setting preferred.
  • Interpersonal skills and functional competencies preferred.
Compensation

Minimum rate of $18.36 hourly.
