Responsibilities
  • Inventory – Maintains accurate and appropriate inventories of medications and supplies; supports drug inventory processes including rotation and restocking of dispensing areas.
  • Regulatory compliance – Maintains a safe and clean work area by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Communication and teamwork – Communicates effectively with other team members, physicians, and patients.
  • Preparation of intravenous admixtures according to established aseptic techniques under the supervision of a pharmacist; assists in labeling and dispensing inpatient unit dose medications; delivers medications to patient care areas as needed.
  • Compounding medication – Weighing, measuring, mixing, blending, filtering, distilling, emulsifying, and titrating according to standard practice and policy.
  • Delivery and reconciliation – Delivers and fills controlled substances to nursing units’ automated medication dispensing cabinets; assists in reconciling narcotic discrepancies daily.
  • Preparation and loading – Prepares medications and loads/unloads them into ADC with appropriate barcode scanning.
  • Telephone – Answers phones with established etiquette and directs calls appropriately.
  • Hazardous medications – Prepares and packages hazardous medications for patient administration under pharmacist supervision.
  • Documentation – Maintains all necessary paperwork, legal documents, and records for medications.
  • Quality assurance – Participates in departmental safety activities for drug usage and infection control; assists in collecting patient-specific data for drug therapy monitoring.
  • Safety – Performs duties safely, reports hazards/unsafe practices immediately to management.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
  • Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Qualifications Education, Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities

Required
  • High School diploma, General Equivalency Diploma (GED), or equivalent programs.
  • Effective oral and written English communication.
  • Strong ability to multitask.
  • Ability and willingness to work cooperatively with others.

Preferred
  • At least one year of pharmacy experience (outpatient or inpatient).
Licenses and Certifications Required
  • Valid New Jersey Pharmacy Technician License.
  • PTCB or ExCPT Certification required within 6 months of employment, except for:
  • Hired prior to July 2024.
  • Actively enrolled in an ACPE accredited school of pharmacy or another allied health program.
Working Conditions

Lifts a minimum of 5 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 5 lbs., and stands a minimum of 4 hours a day.

Compensation

Minimum rate: $22.77 hourly.
