Job DescriptionThe Registered Nurse functions as a caregiver for a specific patient population to achieve desired outcomes. This role focuses on expanding knowledge and skills, providing effective direct care as part of an interdisciplinary team to a variety of complex patients. The nurse directs and oversees care provided by other caregivers through delegation, validation, evaluation, and coordination. The position also involves coordinating patient care/unit activities among nursing peers, physicians, and support services.
Responsibilities- Deliver nursing practices based on up-to-date evidence-based research, policies, and standards of care to ensure safe, individualized patient care.
- Collect comprehensive data relevant to the patient's health or situation.
- Perform age- and disease-specific assessments independently, focusing on physiologic, psychological, and cognitive status.
- Recognize clinical and diagnostic status changes in patients.
- Identify variables in patient/family education needs based on age, disease, and cultural differences.
- Develop and coordinate a patient/family-centered plan of care with strategies and interventions to meet expected outcomes.
- Communicate and implement the care plan, providing ongoing updates to patients, families, and the healthcare team.
- Provide or coordinate patient/family education and ensure understanding.
- Administer medications using current safety technologies and document care electronically.
- Participate in multidisciplinary discharges to ensure safe transition and continuum of care.
- Evaluate patient progress and adjust care plans accordingly.
- Utilize critical thinking to respond to changing patient conditions and unexpected responses to care.
- Identify ethical issues and opportunities to enhance patient satisfaction.
- Maintain necessary competencies, certifications, and continuing education.
- Adhere to organizational standards and standards of behavior.
- Perform physical tasks such as lifting and standing for extended periods.
Required:
- BSN in progress or willing to obtain within three years of hire.
- Six months of relevant nursing experience or active participation in Hackensack Meridian Health's Nurse Residency Program.
- Ability to learn quickly, adapt, and demonstrate accountability, teamwork, and dedication to high-quality patient care.
Licenses and Certifications:
- NJ State Professional Registered Nurse License
- BLS/CPR certification by American Heart Association (within 60 days of hire)
Preferred:
- National certification in area of specialty when eligible.
